This beautifiul sunflower looked like she had benefited from the care of a master gardener. Not so! She was blooming proudly on a Texas roadside near my home in Abilene.
I created the painting in a photorealism style because I did not want to deviate from nature's color palette for this perfect, proud yellow flower with its crisp green leaves.
My inspirations come from my home environment in Texas. Things that I have taken for granted all my life are now inspirations for art. I am drawn to paint scenes depicting the remains of a past I grew up with. Mesquites, cactus, old barns and shacks, windmills, wooden fence posts, wildflowers and the like are favorite subjects. I enjoy using color to revive the fading beauty that was once vibrant. I strive for multiple dimensions, movement, depth and unusual perspective. I am a Texas artist and have painted for most of my 71 years, being from a family of artists. My mother's youngest sister, aunt Patsy, painted under the name of "von." She spent a lot of time with me, guiding and encouraging me, and I credit her for my passion for art....
